Hello,
Your question is about a topic that is best dealt with when you have a real case. Step 3 study notes from either kaplanmedical or premierreview have discussed scenarios where insulin is used to treat diabetes. The actual step 3 exam mcq or ccs may not ask for a prolonged treatment discussion. You may want to familiarise yourself with what are the common presentations and what basic things to do for a diabetic patient who presents as initial/ follow up outpatient versus on the ward versus the emergency room. Do simple, less costly things first. First aid and Crush step 3 give bulletpoints about the first things to do for diabetic cases. What are the comorbid things to look for? UWorld has mcq and shahercd has ccs to help you to review care of the diabetic patient. I also found aafp website useful because they have write ups of common cases seen in primary care.

Hope this helps.
